Proctor Group’s Wraptite® air barrier featured in the off-site manufactured external wall panels, but that was undertaken separately to the roofing contract. However, MetalTech Group installed the aluminium cladding.
Profoil 861 is a heavyweight, reinforced AVCL. Its aluminium foil core makes it highly resistant to water vapour, and is protected on both faces by polyethylene for corrosive situations such as chlorine in swimming pools.
MetalTech Group reviewed the architect’s specification and design intent before undertaking its own detailed design development, coordination and document control processes to successfully deliver the completed roofing package.
The project highlighted the challenge specialist contractors often face, as it presented numerous interface conditions at the wall/roof junction. These required detailed design coordination during the construction phase to maintain continuity of the airtightness strategy.
Appropriate detailing was developed collaboratively by the project team and reviewed by the main contractor and Clerk of Works prior to installation.
Proctor Group attended the project at an early stage and provided a site observation report. They looked at the airtightness of some of the external and internal corner details, and assessed the compatibility of some of the non-Proctor Group tapes used.
“If we were to do the project again, I would get Proctor Group involved even more,” commented Harry Paterson, Project Manager at MetalTech Group. “Otherwise, the Profoil 861 was easy to work with and very robust.”
