The successful issuing of the EPD is the culmination of a rigorous data collection exercise. Proctor Group worked with global consulting agency Ramboll, who undertook data collection in accordance with BS EN 15804. Following independent verification, this has now been registered and published on the International EPD System.

“EPDs are a standardised approach to reporting a product’s environmental performance over its life cycle,” said Iain Fairnington, Technical Director at Proctor Group. “They are not a statement of whether a product is ‘sustainable,’ but a means by which similar products can be compared accurately and with confidence. As such, EPDs are a vital tool for manufacturers to provide transparent information that allows users to make informed specification decisions.”

Carbon emissions are often a focus for EPDs, with the relevant data able to support whole life carbon assessments in accordance with BS EN 15978.

However, EPDs also report a host of other impacts, including acidification potential, eutrophication potential, ozone depletion and resource depletion. This allows construction projects to consider sustainability much more holistically, and gain additional credits in certification schemes like BREEAM and LEED.
